Do you want to know where to find the different materials for shoe and bag making and know some tricks of the trade? For this session, we'll be taking you to at least 12 different shoe, bag and leathercrafting material suppliers!
PLEASE READ ALL DETAILS CAREFULLY.
Schedule:
- 9am to 4pm

8:30 am - meet up at Risque Designs Manufacturing (121 Malaya St, Malanday, Marikina) for intro and briefing
- only bike parking is available in the building
- please make arrangements to commute or be dropped off
- 9:00 am - start of tour
- 9:00 am to 12 nn - shoe brand suppliers, synthetic and leather materials suppliers, Marikina Shoe Museum
- 12 nn to 1:00pm - lunch at a Marikina food stops (please bring money)
- 1:00 to 4:00 pm - Philippine Footwear Federation Inc, machines supplier, components suppliers, leather tools supplier, designers hub
- 4:00 pm drop off at Marikina Riverbanks
Inclusions:
- Full-day visit to at least 12 shoe, bag and leathercraft materials suppliers
- Vehicle and driver for the day
- Bottled water and candies
- Suppliers tour handout
Other details and reminders:
- For health purposes, we are only allowing a maximum of 10 participants
- Lunch is not included -- although we will bring you to an area with different choices for food
- We require full vaccination to be able to join this tour. Please send us your vaccination cards at workshopsbytal@gmail.com once you have registered
- Please wear comfortable clothes (but no shorts and slippers. One of our stops is a bit more strict with clothing)
- You can bring a hand fan or an umbrella in case it's too hot or it rains
- Avoid bringing expensive accessories and other valuables, for safety purposes (generally Marikina is a safe city, but just to be sure)
- Best to bring only a small bag for your valuables
- Bring some cash if you'd like to maximize the trip and buy materials for your needs. Around 2 to 5k would be a good amount, depending on what you'd like to buy. Some suppliers accept Gcash or credit card, but there are also some ATMs in the area
- Take as much photos are you want :) don't forget to tag @workshopsybytal
- You may also bring a notepad for taking notes

Tal de Guzman, the instructor for this course, is the social-entrepreneur founder of Risqué Designs (a 12-year old, proudly-Filipino shoe brand and manufacturer) and co-founder of Stride Collective (a marketplace for ethically handmade shoe brands). She has dedicated her professional life to promoting Philippine craftsmanship and has been teaching workshops and classes since 2016 to help increase demand for artisan skills. She was a former teacher at SoFA Design Institute and is currently teaching at the College of Saint Benilde and holding workshops at various studios such as Soulflower and Maartsy.
