Craft Your Own Shoes (in-person)

 Why you need these workshops:

• If you want to make your own shoes/sandals
• If you want to have an appreciation of local craftsmanship, particularly shoemaking 
• If you want to understand shoe manufacturing and business

What you'll learn:

• Shoemaking basics (tools, materials, etc)
• Choosing a shoe last for your size
• Tracing, cutting and assembling the upper
• Preparing your insoles and outsoles
• Lasting your shoes/sandals
• Attaching the soles
• Adding sock-lining (for Level 1 & up)
• Finishing your shoes/sandals

What are the options for beginners?:

• BASIC | LEVEL 0: Flat Sandals (half day)
• BASIC | LEVEL 1: Flat Mules (whole day)

What are options for intermediate levels? 

**You must have done Level 1 with us to proceed. Please message us on IG if you want to book these levels in advance

• INTERMEDIATE | LEVEL 2: Doll shoes, mary janes, sneakers, loafers, or d'orsay, oxfords, derby, wingtips, or brogues (Must have done Level 1)
• INTERMEDIATE | LEVEL 3: Block heels or wedges (Must have done any Level 2 workshop)
• ADVANCED | LEVEL 4: Stilettos (Must have done Level 3)
• ADVANCED | LEVEL 5: Boots (Must have done Level 4)
  

Are there options for couples?:

• SPECIAL: Couple shoes (Must have done Level 1)
  • There will be 2 workshops for you here: Level 1 + Special shoes
  • Each workshop will be on separate days
• You can also just join our regular sessions

Is this open to kids?:

• Our regular workshops are mostly open to adults. 
• Please send us a message on instagram @risquedesigns to inquire about our private sessions for kids / family / schools 

Are you open to big groups or private sessions?

• Yes! We can take anywhere from 1 to 100 persons for Level 0 (Sandals)
• For Level 1, we can only take maximum of 10 persons

What we'll provide:

• Upper, lining, insole, outsole, socklining and other materials to create your shoes/sandals (except main leather for Level 5)
• Half-day / Full-day workshop instruction by Ms. Tal de Guzman of Risqué Designs
• Side-by-side guidance by our uppermakers and shoemakers
• Use of tools and machines in the studio

Details of the workshop:

• Where: We have 4 venues, but Level 1 and up may only be availed in Risqué Marikina & Soulflower Co in QC. Level 0 can be in other studios or the comfort of your home or office. 
  • Risqué Designs Manufacturing studio at 121 Malaya St, Malanday, Marikina

  • Level 0 : 3 to 4 hours
    • Marikina: 2pm to 5pm
    • Kapitolyo: 9am to 12nn
    • Ortigas: usually 1pm to 4pm
    • QC: by appointment
  • Level 1 : whole day (10am to 6pm)
  • Levels 2 and up: whole day (9am to 6pm)

IMPORTANT NOTES: 

• Lunch meal is not included in the fee, but we will direct you to nearby Marikina/Kapitolyo food spots or you can join or GrabFood/FoodPanda order! :) We provide some basic snacks and drinks during the day. You can also bring a water bottle to refill from our water dispenser.
• We only take maximum of 8-10 persons per day of workshop, since we have limited space.
• And yes it's a full day for Level 1 and up because shoes are not magically made, it's made with labor of love! :) 
• Please also let us know if you have the following allergies or special conditions:
  • Dust/adhesive/cat allergies - We will be using adhesives and sanding machines. The Marikina studio has some studio cats roaming freely. 
  • Dexterity issues - We will be using cutters, scissors, and other hand tools
